Consumer infrared, also known as CIR or consumer IR is related to a huge variety of devices having infrared electromagnetic spectrum for different wireless communications. Generally found in remote controls used for TV, infrared ports are used in various consumer electronics like computers, PDAs, and laptops. CIR functionality is as wide as the consumer electronics that use it. For example, a TV remote control may pass the command of ‘channel up’ to TV, whereas a computer may surf internet only, through CIR. Bandwidth, type, power and speed of all the information that is transmitted totally on specific employed CIR protocol.
